Background
Andrea Valarezo is pursuing a Ph.D. in Nanoscale Engineering at the University at Albany, where she is also a Research Assistant in the College of Nanotechnology, Science and Engineering. She holds a B.Sc. in Chemistry from Yachay Tech University, Ecuador. Her academic interests lie at the intersection of chemistry and biology, particularly in nanomedicine, tissue engineering, and biomaterials for biomedical and biopharmaceutical applications. Previously, she worked on hydrogel synthesis and characterization techniques. She also gained experience with computational methods to identify antiangiogenic peptides for cancer research using visual data mining and similarity search. Her current research focuses on myofibroblast differentiation for in vitro fibrosis modeling in diseases such as salivary gland dysfunction and glaucoma, aiming to develop a robust fibrosis model to support the discovery of antifibrotic and regenerative therapies.
